With over 17 years of experience as a trial lawyer, my goal is to work hard and passionately for each client I undertake to represent, to communicate with you regarding your case and the legal issues involved, to problem solve, and to work vigorously to achieve the solution that is the best for you, whatever you decide that may be. Problem Solving with Your Goals in Mind
My background in courtroom litigation includes experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants as well as providing legal advice to employers about how to comply with the law and prevent disputes in the first place, such as writing employee handbooks.
I now generally represent plaintiffs, people with harassment, discrimination or wrongful termination claims relating to sex, disability, race, gender, pregnancy, national origin, and other protected classes, as well as those with FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) and CFRA (California Family Rights Act) leave-related claims. I also counsel and negotiate employment contracts and severance agreements.
As a sole practitioner and owner of my Sacramento area law firm, I am able to spend the time it takes to get to know you, completely understand your situation, needs, and goals, and work with you to develop a legal strategy crafted to obtain the results you need and protect your interests. I am an aggressive and effective trial lawyer, and I maintain a pragmatic problem-solving approach to each case.
Recent Case
Recently I settled a case on behalf of a pregnant client whose allegation was that when she became pregnant, her employer decided unilaterally that she should not be working in her same position for the same hours while she was pregnant "to protect her an the baby" and attempted to demote her to a part time position. When the client refused to work the reduced schedule, she was summarily fired the next day for what the client argued was a trumped-up reason. As she was being fired, she was told that when she was no longer pregnant, she would get a good reference. The case settled for $230,000. This is discrimination. An employer cannot decide when a pregnant employee should work or be accommodated. That choice is solely up to the pregnant woman and her medical provider, assuming that the employee is capable of performing her essential job duties.
